What Squash Gave Me (That Had Nothing to Do With Squash)
When I first picked up a squash racket, I wasn’t thinking about fitness, discipline, or resilience. I just enjoyed hitting the ball.
In fact, the first time I picked up a squash racket I was near on an adult already! I was 17, and it was a one-off PE lesson during my A-levels.
Looking back now, squash gave me far more than just a sport. It gave me confidence. It gave me structure. And it gave me a place where effort mattered more than talent.
As a younger player, I wasn’t always the best in the room. There were players more naturally gifted, quicker, stronger. But what I learned - without even realising it at the time - was that showing up consistently mattered.
Turning up when you didn’t feel like it.
Trying again after losing.
Learning to stay calm under pressure.
These weren’t “squash skills.” They were life skills. Those same lessons took me through university, into a career in banking, and eventually into building my own coaching business.
And now, coaching young players, I see the same journey happening again. Not every child will go on to be a professional player. But every child can:
Build confidence
Learn resilience
Develop discipline
Experience progress through effort
That’s why squash camps like these matter to me. They’re not just about improving technique. They’re about giving young players an environment where they can grow - not just as athletes, but as people.
Because sometimes, the most important things children learn in sport…
…have nothing to do with the sport itself.
Ready to Give Your Child That Experience?
This Easter, I’ll be running a series of Junior Squash Camps designed to do exactly that - help young players build confidence, resilience, and a genuine love for the game.
Whether your child is just starting out or already playing regularly, these camps are built to challenge, support, and develop them in the right way.
👉 Spaces are limited to keep coaching quality high.
